Farmers from generation to generation, we have been living on these lands since the great-grandfather Luigi, who originally came from Tuscany, in 1902 crossed the ridges and gained these small farms. Today, thanks to the work of our grandfathers and parents who have always breeded, cultivated and also taken care of the territory, an ancient building has been restored and used as holiday farm. Since April of 2000 we have been hosting all those who want to know these valleys and mountains, our people, our work and our traditions.
The whole business complex extends on the Tuscan-Emilian Appennines, specifically in the valley of the river Idice. The agricultural firm, which has been entirely converted to a biological production since 1993, has a surface of 155 hectares, of which 85 are coppice and the remaining 70 hectares are barley, wheat and medical herbs. We built La Cartiera dei Benandanti 400 meters away from the agricultural firm and on the shore from the river Idice, by restructuring an old farmhouse. The name is due to its ancient origin and usage, because the building was built at the end of 1500 and was used as paper mill. The Benandantis were part of the agrarian rituals of the epoch. They were some good wizards, that wandered about in countrysides, propitiating crops and fighting against evils. The holiday farm where we offer accomodation and meals were transformed from an old farmhouse.
