Birra Ronzani has its origins in Casalecchio di Reno, in 1855, at the hands of Camillo Ronzani. From the beginning it was produced with water from the Reno River, such that it earned the nickname of "Gold of the Reno". In 1909 the official Bologna soccer team was founded in the Ronzani brewery which also housed the Bologna Tourism Board on the first floor of the edifice.
After having absorbed the Fabbrica Birra Bologna in 1929, the company is bought by the Wührer Beer Company until, in 1962, the Bologna brewery is renamed “Birra Wuhrer Bologna SpA” resulting in the disappearance of the Birra Ronzani brand. It was the end of a local beer that had accompanied the people of Bologna for over 100 years of drinking. A beer that had intertwined its name to not only the Bologna Football Club, but also other important sporting events such as the Targa Florio.
Currently, the production is hand crafted and takes place at the base of Mount Nerone, at an elevation of 5,000 feet along the border between the Umbria and Marche regions. The beer is produced using pure spring water, spring-time barley and selected yeasts. Production is overseen by a Bavarian master brewer of 6th generation.
An authentic piece of local history that Alberto Ronzani wanted to bring back to current events. Ronzani - there is a destiny in this name - is not directly related to the Camillo Ronzani that created the Gold of the Reno. Regardless, Ronzani has brought back the beer to Bologna along with Marco Rossetti and Fabrizio Procaccio, after years of work to recuperate the brand. In 2009 the brand was recuperated along with all the historic memorabilia, and in 2010 the brand was re-founded.
So the history of Ronzani Beer "FivePointFive" starts again with its traditional ancient recipe and from a place that reminds us of its relationship to “times that were”. The presentation in fact of the re-launching of the brand took place on June 16, 2010 in the Bettolino of Casalecchio di Reno on Ronzani Street in front of the historic plant of which remains just a chimney. In 2010 there was the launch of the Ronzani beer in Emilia Romagna, in 2011 in top locations, such as Formentera, Quebec, Australia, New York and in 2012 in Italy and worldwide.
