Astronomical trek through the woods of Monghidoro

The proposed route starts and ends at the car park of the Prè d’La Radeccia picnic area. At the end of the walk, we will return to the same spot for a packed dinner, followed by an introductory session on astronomy.

The picnic area has toilet facilities and is situated a short distance from the observatory, which is located near the Osteria del Fantorno.

The route is classified as easy/moderate and is also suitable for families with children aged 8 and over, provided they are used to walking.

You may bring your dog, subject to prior request, provided it does not disturb other participants and remains under the owner’s full responsibility at all times.

The route will take participants to discover the incredible panoramic views from Croce dell’Alpe, where the viewing platform with binoculars will allow us to observe the surrounding valleys just before sunset. We will then pass along the short Via dei Presepi, cross ancient beech woods along the Alta Via dei Parchi and briefly join the BOM Art Trail, with its distinctive Triton sculpture. Before returning to the picnic area, we will come across the ruins of the ancient Osteria del Fantorno, nestled in the green of the woods.

Before booking, please bear in mind that:

• To take part in the hike, you must be suitably equipped. Hiking boots with lugged soles or sturdy walking boots are required to tackle the route safely. You must bring a torch, preferably a head torch, with spare batteries; if available, a red light setting is also recommended.
• Appropriate clothing is recommended: long hiking trousers, a sweatshirt and a jacket, as temperatures can drop significantly at night even during the summer months.
• Packed dinner (sandwich, energy bars, fruit)
• At least 1.5 litres of water per person.
• Binoculars, blanket/sheet to lay on the grass, walking poles
