Bologna Montana Art Trail
Posted on 02 September 2024
The Bologna Montana Art Trail is a route of approximately 100 km that can be enjoyed on foot (in stages) or by bicycle which extends across the Bolognese Apennines, between some of the municipalities in the BOM - Bologna Montana area (area east of Bologna).
At the moment the route passes through the territories of Monzuno, Loiano, Monghidoro, San Bendetto Val di Sambro and Monterenzio, through some sections of the Via degli Dei and the Flaminia Militare, as well as the archaeological area of Monte Bibele. The first five works were installed in 2023, while the other 12 in 2024: in both cases the artists' work took place as part of the "Bologna Montana Land Art" event. The goal is to reach a total number of 50 works.
The particularity of the route is given above all by the land art works that were created by Italian and foreign artists along the route of the Art Trail. Land art requires the artist to intervene directly on the environment, creating works (often ephemeral, or in any case non-permanent) using natural materials also found in the place that hosts the work. The works on the route also follow these principles, which help to create a bond between spectators and the natural environment.
There are 17 works currently installed along the Art Trail:
The route can be viewed in its entirety thanks to the Walk+ app (https://www.walkplus.it/)
