The ancient abbey of Santa Lucia in Roffeno is located near the Rocca di Roffeno and is definitely worth a visit.
The abbey was probably erected around the X-XI century, although the exact date is unknown; it was built by Benedictine monks and it also functioned as a shelter for the numerous travelers on the nearby route linking Emilia and Tuscany.
In 1630 the abbey was abandoned; in the 1950s it was partially rebuilt and the original crypt is still visible today, with its beautifully shaped columns and with the Romantic capitals that are the most precious in the area.
