In the center of Marzabotto is the Sacrario ai Caduti, which holds the remains of civilian victims and partisans who died in the various localities of the municipality as a result of the fierce massacre unleashed by the Nazi-Fascists between September 29 and early October 1944.
It is a majestic monument dedicated to the war fallen of Marzabotto, Monzuno, Grizzana, and Castel d'Aiano who were not collected in the main shrine or remained unidentified. This sacred site, built on three large black marble tombstones, commemorates those who sacrificed their lives for freedom and resistance. The structure features white marble headstones that tell the stories of heroism of four extraordinary individuals: chaplain Don Giovanni Fornasini, partisan brigade commander Mario "Lupo" Musolesi, 16-year-old young partisan Gastone Rossi, and partisan Francesco Calzolari. Their brave deeds are engraved on these stones, making their contributions to the cause immortal. Inaugurated in 1961 in the center of Marzabotto, the War Memorial is located in the crypt of the parish church of SS Joseph and Charles.
