The castle of Zena was built on a rock in order to obstruct the valley of Zena, which had been property of Matilde di Canossa. The castle was already mentioned in 1127, it was then rebuilt in the XVII century; at the end of the XIX century it was partly redesigned according to the Romantic and Neo-Gothic style.
The tower known as 'Torre dell'Erede' or 'della Rete' was probably built in the XIII century, though it might be older; it was part of the defensive walls of the castle of Zena. Its walls bear some images carved in stones with animals and human beings. The wooden upper part of the tower was recently rebuilt in the same style of the old ones. The remaining buildings of the village were rebuilt or made during the XVI century.
