Sasso Marconi
For more than 300 years, the Pontecchio Fair has been reviving an ancient ritual in which the colors, sounds and flavors of rural culture are the protagonists of a festival deeply rooted in popular memory. The 16th-century Palazzo de' Rossi hosts artisans and artists, musicians and storytellers who move among stalls where it is possible to buy the best of the artisanal production of barrels, "bigonci" (small containers for crushing grapes), vats for fermenting wine and the indispensable sieves for separating flour from impurities, the "sdaz" precisely. There was one "sdaz" for each type of flour: one with a coarse net for corn, one with a finer net for wheat flour and bran. The wood used for the "sdaz" , generally made of poplar, was bent at the edges with steam, and the net could only be put on when the hoop held its shape. There is also no shortage of shows, curiosities, typical products and the reenactment of some aspects of rural traditions such as domestic animals and life on the farm.
