The cinematic vocation of Porretta Terme was born in 1960, with the Mostra Internazionale del Cinema Libero di Porretta, an important event in the framework of which national and international auteur films were screened, as well as controversial works such as Bernardo Bertolucci's "Ultimo Tango a Parigi".
This event ended in 1982, but since 2002 the new Festival del Cinema in Porretta Terme has taken up its legacy, continuing an artistic tradition featuring the most important directors and performers on the world film scene. The heart of the event has been for many years the monographic reviews, which have featured directors such as Pupi Avati, Alan Parker, Constantin Costa Gavras, Ken Loach, Francesco Rosi, Giani Amelio and Silvano Agosti. Over the years then the Festival has been enriched with new sections, such as the "Concorso fuori dal giro" (dedicated to young authors), the "Premio nazionale Elio Petri" and the review "Uno sguardo altrove"; but also with side events dedicated to education ("Cinema and School").
The Porretta Film Festival offers a unique opportunity for all fans to see (or re-watch) immortal masterpieces, narrated directly by their authors, as well as an immersive experience in the magical world of cinema.
