The Dardagna Falls represent probably one of the best known naturalistic points of interest in the Corno alle Scale area.
You can reach them on foot thanks to a forest road and then a path (CAI number 331) starting from the sanctuary of Madonna dell'Acero, a splendid example of religious architecture surrounded by greenery. To reach the first waterfall (one of the highest) you have to penetrate into the lush beech forest for about 3 km, until you reach the course of the Dardagna stream and consequently the waterfall: if you are lucky you can observe the spotted salamander, an amphibian that lives only in the cleanest water. This first section (from the sanctuary to the waterfall) is suitable for everyone, also during the winter with snowshoes.
In order to reach the other waterfalls (there are seven in total, the largest and most spectacular of which are the first four encountered along the way) you need to take CAI trail 333, which climbs through the woods while staying on the side of the stream. This section is more challenging, partly because of the steepness of some sections, so we recommend extra care when walking along it.
As you reach a higher elevation the Dardagna becomes smaller and smaller, as we approach its source near Cavone Lake, which can be reached thanks to CAI path 337. Here you can enjoy the quiet and the spectacle of the mountain, for a well-deserved rest at the conclusion of the trek.
