The ancient Roman town of Claterna was situated in Ozzano dell’Emilia between the hamlet of Maggio (3 km far from Ozzano dell’Emilia) and the Quaderna river. After its foundation in the first half of the 2nd century BC, Claterna became as large as Bononia (Bologna) and Forum Cornelii (Imola) till it disappeared mysteriously about the 7th century AC.
The archaeological findings on display at the Museum of the town of Claterna came to light during the excavations carried out between the late nineteenth century and the 1960s.
Visitors pass through two circular sections: the former shows the history of the town as well as its rediscovery, the latter shows the urban structure and refers to the present excavations.
The exhibition is inside Palazzo della Cultura (municipal library) on the 2nd floor.
