The Abbazia di Monteveglio Regional Park, located in the Samoggia Valley between Bologna and Modena over an area of about 1,000 hectares, offers a fascinating mix of vineyards, orchards and steep slopes. The name "mons belli" (mountain of war) reflects the ancient history of wars and battles in the area.
The medieval village of Monteveglio, with its castle, the abbey of Santa Maria and its thousand-year-old parish church, is a major attraction. The castle, dating from the Matildic period, bears witness to medieval battles, while the thousand-year-old abbey contributes to the cultural richness. The Visitor Center is located in the hamlet of San Teodoro; here you can find materials and information about the Park's territory (publications, free brochures and maps). The Park is committed to environmental education, involving schools with innovative approaches, and has well-marked trails such as the Nature Trails and Itineraries, which allow visitors to explore the area. Local viticulture, with particular emphasis on the native Pignoletto grape, a white wine with a delicate, fruity aroma, is highlighted by the presence of the headquarters of the Consorzio Vini Colli Bolognesi, an institution dedicated to preserving the area and supporting the producers of the renowned DOC wines of the Colli Bolognesi. This unique place provides an authentic experience, combining scenic beauty with the historical and cultural richness of the region.
