Valsamoggia
The charming fortified village of Monteveglio, an ancient Matildean stronghold in the area, stands next to the Abbey of Santa Maria Assunta on a hill overlooking the valley. The castle's roots go back to the year 1000, evidenced by the arched gateway that still welcomes visitors and a massive castle tower, both adorned with swallowtail battlements that offer magnificent views of the surrounding hills.
Walking along the ancient cobbled streets among the stone houses, one reaches the Abbey, built in 1092 in the Romanesque style, with a 15th-century bell tower.

Near Monteveglio we can visit four other small hamlets: Montebudello, Oliveto, Stiore and Ziribega.
The surrounding area is a valuable nature reserve, protected and enhanced by the Monteveglio Abbey Regional Park.
