Bazzano
is the main town of Valsamoggia and seat of the homonymous Administration, created in 2014
from the incorporation of the other four municipalities of Castello di
Serravalle, Crespellano, Monteveglio and Savigno.
One of the main buildings of
the acropolis is the Rocca of Bentivoglio it is a Renaissance fortress
which now houses the archaeological museum Museo Civico Archeologico A.Crespellani. Near the stronghold there is a church dedicated to Santo Stefano
which was first mentioned in a document in 789; during the XVI and the XVII
century the church was restored and modified. The acropolis includes also a
bell tower and the old Cassero. The so called 'Ripa del Rivellino' links the
Cassero with Bazzano's main square piazza Garibaldi; the weekly open air market
is held in this square every Saturday.
In 2001 Bazzano has been awarded the title of 'Città d'arte' (town of art).
