Castelluccio, a charming village of medieval origins located in the municipality of Alto Reno Terme, rises majestically on the ridge that descends from Mount Cavallo and Mount Tresca, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Its strategic location facilitates access to other jewels of the Upper Reno Valley, such as Lizzano, Gaggio Montano, Porretta and Granaglione.
The name "Castelluccio," contrary to popular belief, is not related to the history of the castle, but means "small hamlet," "little village."
Very interesting are the characteristic "voltoni", a particular kind of arches, the small gardens clinging to terraces, and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, dating back to the 17th century. At the village entrance stands the Manservisi Castle, the town's main attraction, a typical example of the romantic architecture that was in fashion in the last thirty years of the 19th century and at the dawn of the present. It is also currently home to the LabOrantes Museum, which preserves a valuable collection of objects and evidence from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, offering an in-depth look at the daily and working life of mountain people, as well as the religious world.
Castelluccio is an excellent starting point for wonderful green walks and mountain biking trails: you can walk along a very easy path to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Faggio, a small and solitary eighteenth-century church located in a beautiful and evocative beech forest, and then reach the village of Tresana, the Montecavallo Refuge, Prati del Piella, Pian dello Stellaio, the Taccaia Mill, and many other interesting places thanks to the well-marked network of trails maintained by the local Pro Loco and the CAI Sezione Alto Appennino Bolognese.
