Tavernola is a village within the municipality of Grizzana Morandi.
In Tavernola there is a very interesting church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista, which houses some fine paintings. Nearby Tavernola there are many interesting historical buildings, such as the fine small XIV century village of Stanco di Sotto; worthy of mention are also the XIV century villages of Valle and Castellaro, which used to be the headquarter of the municipality of Tavernola and still preserves a tower.
Observing the buildings of the small village, you can spot numerous lintels and carved stones, the result of the artistry of the stonemasons. The activity of stone carving is indeed historically well-rooted in these areas, where there were several quarries dedicated to the extraction of sandstone, perhaps the most typically Apennine building material.
Not too far from Tavernola, there is a massive rock where steps seem to have been carved leading to a flat part of the rock: the site (known as "Scranna di Attila") is the subject of studies; it could be an ancient observation point or the lost "Rocca dei conti di Panico".
