Rocca di Roffeno

Rocca di Roffeno is a charming hamlet in the municipality of Castel d'Aiano, with its typical hamlets and scattered cottages nestled in the green woods on the slopes of the mountains that encircle it.

The locality is a sought-after destination for summer stays because of the salubriousness of its climate, the purity of its waters, the uncontaminated air it breathes, and the cordial hospitality of its inhabitants.

Rocca di Roffeno preserves ancient evidence; it was probably a Matilde di Canossa’s possession and a castle was located there. Worth visiting, downstream from the village, is the parish church of San Martino di Tours.

Worth a visit is the ancient Abbey of Santa Lucia di Roffeno located a short distance from Rocca di Roffeno, which was built for the purpose of also giving hospice and assistance to the many wayfarers who traveled the nearby road connecting Emilia and Tuscany.

Near Roffeno one can visit several Case-Torri and rural hamlets of particular architectural beauty: the nucleus of Monzone whose origin dates back to the 14th century; the nucleus of Ca' masina from the 15th century.
