"Corno alle Scale" Regional Park

About an hour's drive from Bologna and Florence is a beautiful area covering about 5,000 hectares: the Corno alle Scale Regional Park.

Bordering the Parco dell'Alto Appennino Modenese, the area offering a variety of mountain scenery is interconnected by a network of marked trails, refuges and bivouacs. Unmissable hikes lead to the Dardagna Waterfalls and the Valle del Silenzio ("Valley of the Silence"). The sanctuaries of Madonna dell'Acero and Madonna del Faggio, characterized by their picturesque location in the park, add a spiritual touch to the experience.

In addition to simple nature observation, the Park offers the opportunity to actively participate in monitoring the presence of wolves through wolf watching. Outdoor sports lovers can enjoy classic and unusual activities in all seasons, including paragliding and archery. Lizzano in Belvedere is also home to the Proto-Romanesque Rotonda or Delubro, an ancient round building dating from the 6th-7th centuries AD that, although once thought to be a Roman religious site, is now considered part of a Byzantine monastic complex.

The villages of Pianaccio, Poggiolforato and Monteacuto delle Alpi, with their mountain architecture and splendid views of the Corno, are places that combine history and scenic beauty. Particularly fascinating are the sanctuaries, true mountain architectural gems that are definitely worth a visit.

For winter sports enthusiasts, the area is home to a renowned ski resort in the Corno alle Scale area, with its 36 kilometers of downhill slopes, cross-country trails and dedicated snowboarding areas. The highest peak is Corno alle Scale, which reaches 1944 meters. The park also offers numerous routes marked by the CAI, including the Alta Via dei Parchi, which inspire long walks, horseback riding or mountain biking (thanks to the special routes is also possible to practice freeride). However, what really makes the experience in the park unique are the simplicity and warm welcome of the local communities. Staying in one of the area's many hotels or accommodations offers an immersion in the feelings of yesteryear, enriching the experience overall.
