The association of cultural promotion "Civitas Claterna" is born in 2005 from a collaboration among the Ozzano dell'Emilia municipality, the Archaeological voluntary association "Città di Claterna", the Superintendence to Archaeological properties of Emilia-Romagna and the IMA group.
The aim of "Civitas Claterna" is the promotion of the archaeology and the history of the ancient Roman city "Claterna" and surroundings. The recovery of Claterna archaeological site is the starting point to rediscover the history of Ozzano territory and of the Eastern Bolognese area, of which Ozzano is part.
The association understands the archaeological research not only as a scientific activity reserved for scholars, but also and especially as a collective moment of active participation, an hands-on activity to uncover the stories of a common cultural past.
To fulfill this mission the Association periodically organizes guided tours both to exhibition-museum of Roman city Claterna and to the archaeological site through different initiatives, for example the guided tours "Claterna si rivela", walks and bike tours and sperimental archaeology projects. One of these make possible for participants to reconstruct pieces of brickworks and pavements with ancient materials and tecniques.
Civitas Claterna gives the chance to participate in archaeological digs as volunteers. University students can get an internship in the digging companies superintended by the Superintendence to Archaeological properties of Emilia-Romagna.
